Carey, who stands nearly 5'10" tall, was once a leading American fashion model. Designers of the top calibre, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren liked her. Her father, a distinguished scientist who received the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a highly respected geologist. Because of his work, Carey was raised all over the globe. In her college years she started modeling in a part-time capacity and caught the eye to Ford model Agency representatives in New York. She lived in France briefly, in Paris as well as Bordeaux. She then returned home to New York for her college study and further to build her career as a model. Between her modelling assignments she also studied literature full time at New York University. When she began studying acting in the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting increased. Her debut as an actor was an appearance alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Pardise. White water rafting, skis and rock climbing are her most loved activities.
